Booke of the Hidden Books in Order

The Booke of the Hidden series starts with a fresh start gone wrong. Kylie Strange leaves California for tiny Moody Bog, Maine, hoping to rebuild her life after a bad relationship. Instead of peace, she gets a tea shop, a suspicious small town, a wall hiding a supernatural book, and the kind of trouble that does not stop once you realize it is real. The moment Kylie opens the Booke, her ordinary plans are done for.

Kylie is a good anchor for the series because she is not entering a magical world as some chosen expert. She is smart, stubborn, and often out of her depth. She has to learn the rules as she goes, and the books let that discovery unfold through murder investigations, family secrets, and increasingly strange threats. What starts as one eerie object turns into a whole network of problems involving creatures loosed into the world, hostile magic, and a past that has been hiding in Moody Bog for a long time.

The supporting cast is a big part of the appeal. Erasmus Dark, the handsome demon who enters Kylie's life with warnings and complications, gives the books their strongest romantic spark. Sheriff Ed offers a much more grounded human counterpoint. Around them is a coven of misfit Wiccans who help make the series feel communal instead of solitary. Kylie is not a lone heroine stomping through darkness by herself. She is part of a town, even when the town barely understands what is happening.

That small-town setup matters. The paranormal elements are large, but the books keep them close to daily life. Tea blends, local gossip, uneasy friendships, and awkward attractions all keep colliding with demonic plots and magical violence. That balance gives the series its tone: quirky and funny in places, romantic in others, but willing to turn sharp when the danger arrives.

The ongoing problem is the Booke itself. It is not just a prop or a one-book mystery. It is the source of recurring chaos, drawing enemies, releasing horrors, and forcing Kylie to confront questions about power, responsibility, and what parts of her own life were never as ordinary as she believed. Biker covens, angry gods, supernatural assassins, and family history all grow out from that original discovery.

The books also feed into Moonriser, the spin-off built around Jeff Chase, which tells you something about how rich Westerson lets this world become. There are enough moving parts here, magical, emotional, and comic, to support more than one kind of story.

If you like urban fantasy that keeps one foot in mystery and another in romance, Booke of the Hidden is easy to settle into. It has a likable lead, a memorable town, and a nice mix of cozy surfaces and genuinely dangerous undercurrents.
