Series background & context

The Bone Gap Travellers series follows Brynn Callahan, a former Marine military police officer who returns to Bone Gap, Tennessee, with her canine partner, Wilco. Both have been changed by their service, and Brynn arrives home carrying injuries, difficult memories, and mixed feelings about the mountain community she once wanted to leave.

Bone Gap sits in the Appalachian region, where the Irish Traveller community and the settled townspeople live close together without always understanding one another. Brynn belongs to both worlds and neither of them completely. That tension gives the mysteries their edge, especially once she begins working with the local sheriff's department.

Wilco is not just along for the ride.

In Splintered Silence, Wilco's training as a cadaver dog leads Brynn to a body in the woods. The discovery brings long-standing local resentments to the surface and forces Brynn into an uneasy partnership with Sheriff Frank Pusser. As she searches for answers, she also has to reckon with family history and the rules of a tight-knit community that doesn't welcome outsiders easily.

By Fractured Truth, Brynn is a newly sworn deputy sheriff facing her first official homicide. A murdered young Traveller woman, human remains uncovered by Wilco, and clues tied to local beliefs make the case personal. Brynn's position gives her access to an investigation, but it also leaves her under pressure from people who expect her loyalty to lie on one side of a divided town.

Shattered Justice raises the stakes with a series of disturbing messages and missing victims. Brynn must work quickly while the case again exposes the fault lines between the Travellers and other Bone Gap residents. The books build their suspense from rural isolation, close family ties, prejudice, grief, and the way an old secret can change a present-day investigation.

These are dark, character-driven mysteries rather than cozy whodunits. Brynn is capable but not invulnerable, and her bond with Wilco is one of the series' steady anchors. Start with Splintered Silence for the full picture of her return home, then read in order as her work, relationships, and sense of belonging keep evolving.
