Series background & context
Bonds of Wings and Fury is I T Lucas's fantasy romance series set in a world of dragon riders, ancient rites and nations close to war. Kailin and Alar meet on a journey that will decide far more than their individual futures. Their developing relationship becomes entangled with an old prophecy and political interests that make choosing a life together more complicated than following an attraction.
Kailin would rather draw a dragon than ride one.
In The Two-Faced God, she must undertake the pilgrimage to the summit of Mount Hope, just like other Elucians. There, a shaman determines who will have the chance to bond with dragons. Most people would welcome that distinction, but Kailin has a fear of heights she is trying to conceal. A ritual that promises honour to others looks very different to someone who dreads what it might demand from her.
Alar appears to be a privileged visitor from Eluria, drawn by the status and immortality associated with dragon riders. He has purposes he doesn't openly acknowledge, however, and those purposes could affect the relationship between Elucia and the Elurian Federation. As he and Kailin travel up the mountain, assassins and dangerous trials give them immediate reasons to depend on one another. Trust begins to matter before either has a clear picture of where the journey will lead.
The wider setting includes dragons with interests of their own and enormous creatures that can tunnel through mountains. Power isn't held only by the humans making political plans. Ancient traditions and religious expectations influence how people understand their place in the world, while the prophecy raises questions about whether those familiar explanations are reliable. The romance develops within that uncertainty rather than apart from it.
Hero of Elucia continues Kailin and Alar's story, bringing the strain of prophetic dreams and the demands of royal family ties into sharper focus. Later, Silver Princess follows Princess Idrilia's interest in a rare flower said to have extraordinary medicinal properties. Her search connects the desire for knowledge with danger and responsibility, widening the series' attention beyond the opening pair while the larger prophecy remains a continuing thread.
Read the books in sequence, beginning with The Two-Faced God, then Hero of Elucia, Silver Princess and The Seventh. This is an ongoing fantasy story whose relationships and mysteries develop across volumes. Readers can expect romance alongside dragon bonding, perilous journeys and conflicts between personal wishes and public duty. The central tension lies in people discovering that the future expected of them may be very different from the one they would choose for themselves.
