Bolo!

by David Weber

2005

A](https://www.amazon.com/dp/1416520627%22,%22description%22:%22A) collection of Bolo stories centered on intelligent battle tanks built for impossible wars. The tales focus on duty, loyalty, and the eerie calm of machines making moral choices while humans panic, spanning multiple battlefields and eras.

Series background & context

Bolo is the long-running military SF setting built around a memorable idea: intelligent, heavily armed battle tanks designed to fight humanity’s worst wars, and to do it with a code of honor. David Weber’s Bolo work leans into that tension between cold machine logic and the very human values the machines are taught to protect.

Most Bolo stories are self-contained. You might follow a single cybertank and its human allies in a doomed defense, a last-stand retreat, or a campaign where the “right” move is also the one that breaks your heart.

Sometimes the most reliable character is made of armor plate.

Because the setting spans many authors and eras, it helps to know what a given collection actually contains. This page lists the Bolo titles in order, summarizes the focus of each book, and points you to good starting places if you want to try the concept without committing to every volume.
