Series background & context

Marissa Farrar's Blood Courtesans entry, Stolen, sits inside a larger shared vampire world, but it reads cleanly on its own. The hook is strong straight away. Dakota has been raised for years to become a blood courtesan, taught that one day she will be purchased by a vampire and handed over to a life she never truly chose.

That setup gives the book its tension from page one. Roman, the vampire who buys her, is not what she expected, which opens the door to questions bigger than simple fear. Why did he choose her? What does he want? And is this new life just another prison with better manners, or something stranger and more dangerous than that?

It is a single-book corner of a shared world, so the focus stays close.

You do not need a whole series guide to follow it. Expect vampire hierarchy, possession, secrecy, and a romance shaped by power imbalance and hidden motives. If you like paranormal romance with a structured supernatural society and a heroine trying to understand the rules before they trap her, this is a solid one-book stop in Farrar's catalogue.
