Bitterroot Books in Order

Bitterroot, co-written by SM Reine and Heather Hildenbrand, is built on one of the cleanest hooks in the bunch: two werewolf sisters forced into a fight for power they cannot both win. The setup has a strong YA pulse from the start, but it is meaner and more political than a simple love triangle story.

Regan Vuk has spent her whole life expecting to become alpha. Charlie Vuk has spent hers on the outside, barely connected to the family that should have been hers. When Charlie is pulled into the pack's orbit, the two girls are forced into direct competition. Leadership is at stake, family history is ugly, and a vampire prince named Owen makes everything even more combustible.

Nobody walks into this clean.

What keeps the series moving is the mix of sibling rivalry and pack politics. Regan and Charlie are not just romantic rivals or opposites arranged for easy drama. They are both carrying real claims, real wounds, and real reasons for wanting different versions of the future. That gives the conflict more weight than the premise might suggest at first glance.

There is also a murder hanging over Paradise, which helps push the story beyond romance and into mystery. The vampire and werewolf tension adds another layer, especially because peace between those groups never looks simple, safe, or especially likely.

If you want a paranormal series with younger leads, a faster pace, and a strong family rivalry at the center, Bitterroot is easy to binge. It is dramatic, emotional, and very interested in what power does inside a family before it ever spills out into the wider world.
