Series background & context

The Billy Beckett series follows a risk loving sports agent who keeps getting dragged from bright stadium lights into the shadows where big money and crime overlap. Billy is based in East Tennessee, but his work with elite athletes sends him everywhere from New Orleans to the Australian Open.

In Deep Threat, Billy is on the verge of signing Jarvis Thompson, a wildly talented college wide receiver whose NFL future could change both of their lives. After a riverfront celebration at Billy’s home, Jarvis vanishes. Drugs, cash, and Billy’s badly beaten brother are left behind. With police suspicious of everyone, Billy races across the South trying to find his client, figure out who set them up, and keep the story from destroying Jarvis’s career.

Divine Strike shows Billy a year later, still shaken by the kidnapping and deaths that ripped through his circle. He is pulled into two separate storms, the torture murder of a restaurant owner on a Texas ranch and the struggles of a rural fighter who wants to leave a brutal past behind. The investigation forces Billy to juggle cartel level violence, small town secrets, and his own doubts about whether he can keep anyone safe.

In Ripcord, the spotlight shifts to the NBA. Billy represents Russell Mann, a charismatic young star on the verge of a huge contract with Orlando. When people around Russell start dying, Billy finds himself caught between protecting his client, telling the truth, and surviving a blackmail plot that could ruin them both.

Break Point moves into the world of professional tennis. Billy’s newest client, teenage phenom Simon Shay, is heading for his first major tournament in Australia. Simon is gifted, impulsive, and surrounded by people who see him as a ticket to money and status. As pressure mounts, Billy has to keep him focused on the game while stalking threats that have nothing to do with the next serve.

Across the series, the tone is fast and visual, with locker rooms, arenas, and private jets sitting right beside back roads, cheap motels, and dark alleys. Billy is not a detective in the traditional sense, but his loyalty to his clients and his willingness to take risks pull him into investigations again and again. If you like sports stories where contracts, family ties, and criminal schemes are all on the line at once, this is the corner of the Scott Pratt universe to start with.
