Series background & context
Billionaires of Manhattan is Annika Martin in full romantic-comedy mode. These books take huge, almost ridiculous premises and make them work through banter, chemistry, and heroines who refuse to be impressed just because a man has a penthouse and a private jet. If you want high-energy, enemies-to-lovers romance with real emotional payoff, this is probably the easiest place to start.
The first book, Most Eligible Billionaire, tells you exactly how the series thinks. A rescue dog inherits a company. A regular woman has to speak for him in the boardroom. A furious CEO assumes the whole thing is a scam. That mix of absurd setup and sincere feeling runs through the whole series. The Billionaire's Wake-up-call Girl turns anonymous early-morning calls into a hidden-identity romance. Breaking the Billionaire's Rules brings back a high school nemesis. The Billionaire's Fake Fiance leans into fake engagement chaos.
Nobody in this series gets to stay cool for very long.
Later books keep the same spirit while changing the hook. Return Billionaire to Sender gives you a letter carrier mistaken for an emotional intelligence coach. Just Not That Into Billionaires opens with a surprise Vegas marriage that never got undone. Butt-dialing the Billionaire plays with an undercover boss setup. The Grumpy Billionaire goes for brother's best friend tension and a heroine who is done being heartbroken by the same man.
Even though the heroes are rich, the books are not really about wealth. The money mostly creates the playground, sleek offices, town cars, boardrooms, penthouses, impossible schedules. The real appeal is the personality clash. Martin likes grumpy, tightly wound men who think they are in control and women who keep poking holes in that idea. The best scenes usually come when the hero's polished image starts to crack.
These are connected standalones set in the same world, so you can read them in order or jump by premise. Reading in sequence does give you extra fun because side characters drift through and the overall Manhattan world gets fuller with each book. But the emotional arc in each novel is self-contained, with its own couple and its own happily ever after.
If you want romance that is spicy, fast, and very funny without losing heart, this series is a strong bet. Start anywhere that sounds fun, then follow the trope that grabs you next. The dog inheritance, the wake-up calls, and the fake fiancΓ©e are all good bets.
