Between Two Thieves

2019
A body is found on the beach, and Eva Roberts is asked to help a friend trapped with a violent partner. With Dan Bradley beside her, she links the crises to a wider pattern, and a killer closing in.
Series background & context
Between Two Thieves introduces Eva Roberts and Dan Bradley on one of their bleakest cases. It begins with a body on the beach, and a friend from Eva's past who is terrified of the man she lives with. Two problems, both urgent, both threatening to explode.
Then another death turns up, and the pattern starts to show. The victims do not seem connected, which is usually a bad sign. It means the detectives are missing the real story, and the killer has room to move.
The books mix investigative legwork with genuine peril. Eva and Dan have to talk to the wrong people, walk into the wrong places, and keep their heads while the pressure rises. DI Joe Hogarth also appears, adding the sense that this case has grown beyond what two private investigators should be handling.
There is a strong emotional thread running under the plot, about loyalty, fear, and the damage people do behind closed doors.
Read Between Two Thieves first, then continue with Cuts Both Ways and Play With Fire to see how the consequences carry forward.
