Banished Books in Order

The Banished books follow Hailey Tarbell, a sixteen-year-old girl from Gypsum, Missouri, who has spent most of her life trying to survive bad adults, bad luck, and a town that has already decided what she is worth. She lives in the run-down part of town, looks after little Chub, and dreams of getting out. Then a freak accident reveals that Hailey can heal, and suddenly her small, hard life becomes much stranger and much more dangerous.

In Banished, the power first looks like a miracle. Then the downside shows up. Hailey can save people, but if she reaches them too late she can bring back something frightening instead. A mysterious aunt named Prairie enters the picture, armed attackers start closing in, and Hailey learns she is part of a hidden line of healers whose history reaches back to Ireland. The books use that supernatural setup well, but they stay grounded in Hailey's voice and in her fierce need to protect Chub.

Unforsaken shifts the setting to the Milwaukee suburbs, where Hailey, Prairie, and Chub are trying to build something that resembles a normal life. Hailey has real friends, better clothes, and a home that feels safe for once. Of course safety does not last long. Her feelings for Kaz, the boy she left behind, and the people hunting her drag the past right back into the room. The result is part paranormal thriller, part chase story, and part family drama.

What makes this series stand out is how much class and responsibility shape the fantasy. Hailey is not a chosen one floating above everyday problems. She is a teenager who has cooked meals, watched over a vulnerable child, and learned not to expect rescue. That gives the danger some bite. So does the moral question inside her power. Healing sounds like a clean gift, but these books keep asking what happens when saving someone comes at a terrible cost.

The tone is fast, tense, and emotional, with a little romance, a lot of running, and just enough horror to keep things uneasy. Readers who like YA stories with supernatural rules, strong family bonds, and a heroine who has to invent her own future will probably want to start with Banished and keep going from there.
