B Kent Anderson Books in Order

B Kent Anderson grew up in Madill, Oklahoma, and the feel of that state never left his work. Long before he published a novel, he was learning how stories move through voice, timing, and detail. Those habits came from radio, and they later helped shape his tight, high-pressure thrillers.

Radio came first.

Anderson started broadcasting at fifteen, studied communications at the University of Central Oklahoma, and built a long career as an announcer, producer, programmer, and on-air host in Oklahoma City. He also worked in political communications, taught university courses in communications and broadcasting, and spent time in arts marketing. All of that put him close to institutions, public language, and the small calculations people make when pressure rises.

He wrote fiction for years before he broke through in print. His first published novel, Department Thirty, appeared in 2003 under the pen name David Kent. It opens with family tragedy and then expands into government secrecy, betrayal, and domestic terror. That mix of personal hurt and public danger became one of his signatures.

It also announced that Oklahoma would be more than backdrop in his books.

The four Department Thirty novels, Department Thirty, The Mesa Conspiracy, The Blackjack Conspiracy, and The Triangle Conspiracy, show what Anderson likes to do best. He takes recognizable people and pushes them into systems built on hidden deals. The plots get large, but the books stay personal, leaning on damaged families, old violence, and secrets that refuse to stay buried. The Blackjack Conspiracy won the Oklahoma Book Award for fiction in 2006, a clear marker that the series had found its audience.

Later he moved into another lane with Cold Glory and Silver Cross. Those books keep the thriller engine running, but they bring Civil War documents and historical research right into the center of the action. Nick Journey, a history professor, and Meg Tolman, a federal investigator, make a strong pair because neither feels like a stock hero. Anderson seems drawn to smart, overworked people who keep going even when the official story stops making sense.

That human scale matters. Even in his biggest plots, Anderson stays close to work, family pressure, regional history, and the emotional cost of knowing too much. His fiction is interested in conspiracies, yes, but also in what happens when a parent disappears, when an old document resurfaces, or when a regular person realizes the safe version of events is not true.

Outside the novels, Anderson has worked as a journalist and broadcaster, and his magazine writing has earned honors from the Society of Professional Journalists. Broadcasting has remained a constant. In recent years he has continued on the air with Classical KUCO in Oklahoma City, which fits a writer so interested in voice, rhythm, and what people choose to say in public versus private.

He lives in Oklahoma City and is a father of three sons. That Oklahoma perspective, practical, skeptical, and alert to the way history lingers, runs through everything he writes. Start anywhere, and you will probably spot it fast.
