Axie Oh Books in Order

Axie Oh is a Korean American young adult novelist, often described as a first-generation Korean American writer, who was born in New York City and raised in New Jersey. She studied Korean history and creative writing at the University of California San Diego, then earned an MFA in Writing for Young People from Lesley University.

That mix of history, pop culture, and teen emotion runs through almost everything she writes.

Oh has said she started with flash fiction and short pieces before she ever finished a novel. While she was in school, she wrote stories for class and shared some shorter work online. She did not complete her first full manuscript until after graduation, which makes her path feel refreshingly workmanlike rather than mythic. She built toward novels step by step.

Her real publishing break came with Rebel Seoul, the futuristic novel that became her debut in 2017 after winning the New Visions Award. Set in a war-scarred Korea full of giant machines, military pressure, and divided cities, it introduced many of the things readers now expect from her: fast plots, emotional stakes, Korean settings, and young characters trying to stay human inside systems built to use them. She returned to that world in Rogue Heart, which opens the same conflict from a new angle.

With XOXO and ASAP, Oh shifted into contemporary romance and the world of K-pop, arts schools, trainees, paparazzi, and family expectations. Those books are softer around the edges than her sci-fi, but not lightweight. Jenny, Sori, Jaewoo, and Nathaniel all have to balance ambition with affection, and private feelings with very public lives. She makes room for crushes, banter, and swoony moments, but also for the harder question underneath them: how do you choose your own future when other people think they already own it?

Then she moved back toward folklore and fantasy. The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea, inspired by the Korean folktale of Shim Cheong, follows Mina into a spirit realm of gods, demons, and impossible bargains. It became a New York Times bestseller and brought her work to a much wider audience. After that came The Floating World and The Demon and the Light, a duology that blends romance, adventure, memory, war, and legend.

Across all of these books, certain interests keep resurfacing. Oh likes characters who are caught between duty and desire. She likes young people under pressure, whether that pressure comes from an authoritarian government, a demanding parent, a glittering entertainment industry, or fate itself. Found family matters in her stories. So do sacrifice, memory, and the pull between the life a character is given and the life they actually want. She also returns again and again to Korean culture, from futuristic Seouls and K-pop stages to sea gods and celestial-maiden lore.

These are books with heart.

Outside her fiction, Oh has shared her love of K-pop, anime, stationery supplies, and milk tea. She lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, with her dogs, Toro and Leila. Even those off-page interests help make sense of the books. They carry pop energy, big feelings, and a real affection for small, vivid details. That is part of why her stories can move from giant robots to love songs to mythic quests while still sounding unmistakably like her.
