Author bio
Ava Miles grew up in a small Midwestern town where money was tight, the trailer park was home, and books felt like secret doorways. Long before she published a single novel, she was already telling stories to anyone who would listen.
Storytelling runs in her family. Her great-grandfather once won a struggling newspaper in a poker game, and the paper stayed in the family for generations. That unlikely legacy shows up all over her fiction, especially in the Hale family at the heart of her Dare Valley books.
In school, Ava followed her curiosity far beyond that small town. She studied rhetoric, technical writing, Spanish, international peace studies, and political science, collecting degrees along the way. Those choices led her into a career most romance writers only research from afar, working as a conflict expert in places torn apart by war.
For years she crisscrossed the globe, helping communities rebuild after violence, sitting in rooms where peace talks could fail or finally take hold. She managed big projects, led multinational teams, and saw up close how fear, courage, and hope shape ordinary lives.
Between assignments she cooked in professional kitchens and trained as a chef, another thread that now runs through her books. Later she added new roles, working as a life coach, energy healer, and self help teacher for people who were trying to put their lives back together.
Writing fiction was the constant hum underneath all of that work. Eventually she gave it more than her spare hours. Her debut novel, Nora Roberts Land, grew out of a very real family story and her affection for small towns. It introduced readers to Dare Valley, Colorado, and to the blend of humor, heart, and a touch of mystery that would become her hallmark.
Since then she has written dozens of books, from country music romances like Country Heaven and The Chocolate Garden to globetrotting family sagas such as Wild Irish Rose and Love Among Lavender, wartime love stories like Letters Across An Open Sea, and her witty, Paris-set Paris Roommates series. She also writes nonfiction, including her candid Goddess Guides for women and The Post-Covid Wellness Playbook.
Across all of those genres, the through lines are clear. Her stories center on found family, second chances, and the quiet magic that can live inside an ordinary day. Many of her heroes and heroines are carrying grief or trauma, and part of the love story is learning how to trust joy again.
After years of traveling for work, Ava finally gave herself the kind of new beginning she often writes about. She left her longtime base in the United States, spent a stretch living in Ireland, and now splits her time between Paris and Provence. Those places have become home as well as inspiration, from Irish ghostly matchmakers to roommates chasing their dreams in the City of Light.
When she is not writing, she might be in the kitchen testing a recipe, in the garden with her hands in the dirt, or tinkering with a new art project. But the heartbeat of her days is still the same one that started back in that trailer park, a girl with a head full of stories. She wants each book to feel like a safe place to land, a reminder that even after the hardest seasons, love and happiness are still possible.
