Series background & context
Appletree Cove is Hall's sweeter, smaller-scale romance lane. The books are set in a beach town and focus on adults who are not looking for drama, and then immediately find it in the form of old feelings, family obligations, and dogs.
The first book, In the Dog House, is a second-chance story about Jackson Hardy coming home to care for his nephew and running into Emma Mercer, the woman he never fully got over. Just One Kiss stays in the same world but shifts to opposites attract, with free-spirited Grace Sheldon and structured dog trainer Sawyer Rivera. In both books, the romance grows out of ordinary responsibilities instead of grand fantasy.
Dogs are part of the emotional engine here. Training, rescue work, shelters, and the simple fact of caring for an animal keep pulling the characters out of their own heads. That gives the series a warm, grounded feel, and it also helps Appletree Cove stand apart from a more standard small-town romance setup.
These are gentle contemporary romances. There is chemistry, but the bigger pleasure is watching guarded people soften, families widen, and the town do some quiet matchmaking. Hall keeps the stakes personal, not melodramatic.
If you want comfort reads with a coastal setting, sweet-but-grown-up relationships, and a lot of heart, Appletree Cove is built for that.
