Author bio
Annie's Attic Mysteries isn't the name of one writer. It is a shared cozy-mystery series, with different authors taking turns telling connected stories about the same woman, town, house, and circle of friends.
The series begins with The Lady in the Attic in 2010. Tara Randel introduces Annie Dawson, a widow who inherits her grandmother's old home, Grey Gables, in the coastal Maine town of Stony Point. Annie arrives carrying grief, practical worries, and a house full of family belongings that have been left untouched for years.
Then the attic starts giving up its secrets.
Each book builds from an object, memory, local legend, or new problem that pulls Annie into another puzzle. A piece of needlework, military medals, a photo album, letters, a map, and a rag doll all lead back to people whose stories have been hidden, forgotten, or misunderstood. The mysteries are usually personal rather than grisly, and the past has a habit of turning up in very tangible form.
A rotating group of writers kept the series moving. Cathy Elliott wrote Medals in the Attic, Marlene Chase wrote The Photo Album, and DeAnna Julie Dodson wrote Letters in the Attic. Other installments came from writers including Jan Fields, K. D. McCrite, Mary O'Donnell, Karen Kelly, Jolyn Sharp, Sharon Dunn, Donna Kelly, and D. Savannah George.
That shared setup is the point.
The books return to Annie's life in Stony Point even as the author changes. Grey Gables remains the center of the action, along with the attic's cluttered store of keepsakes. Annie's friends, especially the women around the Hook and Needle Club, help her sort through clues, local history, and the occasional neighborly complication. Crafting, friendship, small-town gossip, and old family ties are part of the atmosphere.
Annie also changes as the series goes on. What begins as a difficult visit to deal with an inheritance becomes a chance to make a home and reconnect with people. Her questions are often about more than a lost object. They are about who belonged to whom, what families chose not to say, and how a community remembers its own past.
The series reached 30 books, ending with The Ring in the Attic in 2013. Along the way, it moved beyond the attic often enough to include holiday mysteries, island legends, travel, pets, music, food, and trouble around town. Still, the basic promise stays the same: Annie finds a loose thread, and she and her friends patiently follow it.
These are gentle, connected mysteries built for readers who like old houses, everyday friendships, and clues with a little history behind them.
