Explore this seriesAuthor bio
Andrew Clawson is a Pennsylvania thriller writer whose books love motion, old secrets, and the moment history stops behaving like something safely locked in a case. He lives near Pittsburgh with his wife, two young children, and a rescued black cat.
His public bio stays close to the work.
That fits the books. Again and again, Clawson returns to hidden documents, stolen relics, political power, and the way one buried fact can still wreck lives in the present. His published bibliography starts with A Patriot's Betrayal in 2012, and from there he built a catalog that moves easily between conspiracy thriller, archaeological adventure, and survival-driven action.
The Parker Chase books are a good place to see that approach in miniature. Parker is an investment banker, not a professional operative, yet he keeps getting dragged into historical mysteries alongside scholar Erika Carr. In A Patriot's Betrayal, The Crowns Vengeance, and A Republic of Shadows, Clawson uses old papers, secret networks, and political violence to turn the past into a live threat. The hook is simple: history matters, and somebody powerful would prefer it did not.
He likes big stakes.
That same instinct drives the Harry Fox novels, which may be the clearest expression of his adventure side. Harry is a Pakistani-American relic hunter from Brooklyn who acquires artifacts for the Italian mob, so every treasure hunt begins with trouble already built in. The Arthurian Relic, The Emerald Tablet, and The Celtic Quest send him chasing clues tied to Arthurian legend, ancient Persia, and Boudica. The books move fast, but the historical angle is not decoration. Clawson builds his plots out of manuscripts, tablets, lost paths, sacred objects, and the people willing to kill for them.
As the Harry Fox series goes on, another layer becomes more important. Titles like The Achilles Legend, The Pagan Hammer, and The Pharaoh's Amulet push Harry deeper into the mystery of his father's amulet, his parents' fate, and the enemy who shattered his family. That longer thread gives the series a more personal engine. Even when a single book is about one relic or one legend, Harry is still carrying unfinished business from book to book.
Clawson later stepped backward in time with the Harry Fox origin stories, beginning with The Midsummer Treasures and The All Hallows' Icon. Those books show Harry earlier, hungrier, and still trying to step out of his father's shadow. They also make clear that Clawson enjoys a good beginning. He likes showing how a character learns the rules of a dangerous world by getting bruised by it.
Then there is the Turn series, which shifts away from archives and ruined empires to Tanzania. Starting with The Conflict Lands, these books follow Reed Kimble, a former American big-game hunter turned conservationist, as he fights poachers, smugglers, and gangsters threatening his adopted home. A New Dawn and Endangered keep that pressure on. The setting matters here in a different way. Instead of cathedrals, royal letters, or Roman puzzles, the danger grows out of land, wildlife, criminal networks, and survival.
Across all of these books, Clawson's patterns are easy to spot. He likes capable leads who are forced to improvise. He likes stories where an old clue opens a modern wound. And he likes giving readers a little history with the chase, whether the trail runs through Scotland, Germany, ancient Greece, or the Tanzanian savanna. If there is a neat summary of his work, it is probably this: he writes thrillers that treat the past as active, dangerous, and never quite finished.
