Amish of Big Sky Country Books in Order

Amish of Big Sky Country takes Kelly Irvin's Amish fiction out of the usual farmland comfort zone and into northwestern Montana, where distance, weather, and wildfire shape everyday life. These books are set around the Amish communities of West Kootenai, St. Ignatius, and Libby, and the landscape is not just pretty scenery. It drives the tension.

The series opens with Mountains of Grace, where Mercy Yoder is living a steady life as an Amish schoolteacher until wildfire forces her community to evacuate. That crisis shakes loose everything she thought she knew about her future. Her relationship with Caleb no longer feels secure, and her conversations with English smoke jumper Spencer McDonald open a door she never expected to consider. The romance matters, but so does the way disaster strips people down to what they really believe.

In A Long Bridge Home, the series widens. Christine Mast is displaced by the fire and ends up in St. Ignatius, where she is pulled into a friendship with Raymond Old Fox and introduced to the history and culture of the Kootenai people. At the same time, she is still tied emotionally to Andy Lambright, the beau she left behind. This book is especially interested in what happens when a sheltered life suddenly gets bigger.

Peace in the Valley moves to Libby and takes on a different kind of conflict. Nora Beachy is evacuated into an Amish community whose worship style is far more charismatic and outwardly expressive than the one she grew up with. She is drawn to it, but that attraction threatens her place in her family, her home district, and her relationship with Levi. Instead of asking only who she will love, the book asks how she will live.

That is really the thread running through all three novels. These are stories about upheaval, yes, but also about contact. Amish characters are pushed into closer relationships with firefighters, law enforcement, Native neighbors, and other Amish groups whose practices are not quite the same as their own. The result is a series that feels broader and more outward-looking than many Amish romances.

If you want Kelly Irvin at her most expansive, this is a strong pick. The books still offer romance and faith, but they also carry smoke, mountains, evacuation orders, culture clash, and the hard work of rebuilding after loss.
