Series background & context

Alpha Squad is Jenna Bennett’s romantic suspense series built around a tight-knit group of Navy SEALs. These books are about competence under pressure, loyalty that runs deep, and what happens when people trained for chaos are forced to deal with very personal kinds of fear. The action can be global, from luxury marinas to gritty streets, but the emotional question stays close to home: who has your back when everything goes sideways?

Each story pairs a member of the team with a heroine whose life is suddenly on the line. The heroes have skills, resources, and a protective streak a mile wide, but they’re not invincible, and the women they fall for aren’t helpless passengers. The relationship grows in the middle of missions, threats, and split-second decisions. Because the men are part of the same unit, you’ll also see an ongoing sense of brotherhood, teammates showing up for each other, sharing intel, and stepping in when a situation gets bigger than one person can handle.

In The Socialite and the SEAL, John Walton rescues heiress Tansy Leighton from a hijacked yacht in the Mediterranean. That should have been the end of it, a dramatic story they tell at parties and then move on. Instead, danger follows Tansy home, and she turns to the one person who’s already proven he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her alive. Protection turns into partnership, and their growing trust becomes as important as any weapon.

The romance hits hard because the danger is real.

The Stripper and the SEAL shifts the focus to Maksim “Mad Max” Vasiliev, a SEAL carrying a personal vendetta after his sister’s death. When violence and organized crime brush up against a woman who needs help, Maksim’s sense of duty and his need for answers collide. The plot leans into the tension of being hunted, of not knowing who’s compromised, and of trying to keep someone safe when safety isn’t a place you can just drive to.

Expect a faster pace than Bennett’s cozier mysteries, with more action on the page and bigger external threats driving the plot. There’s still plenty of character work, especially around trauma, recovery, and what it means to build a safe life after danger. These books are romance-first, but they don’t treat the suspense as window dressing, the danger shapes the choices the characters make. Start with The Socialite and the SEAL for the series setup, then continue in order to watch the team’s world expand.
