Author bio
Alexa Riley is the shared pen name of romance writers Lea and Mel. They started writing together in 2014 after years of reading and blogging about romance, then decided to write the kind of fast, over-the-top love stories they wanted more of.
That choice pretty much set the tone for everything that followed. Their books move quickly, lean hard into instant obsession, and promise a happily-ever-after every time. From the start, they have described their work in plain terms: sweet, dirty, over-the-top romances that do not take all year to read.
They knew exactly what lane they wanted.
Under the Alexa Riley name, they built a huge backlist of short contemporaries, novellas, and a handful of longer books. They have said they began as bloggers, and when they could not find enough of the romances they wanted to read, they wrote their own. Many of those books were self-published, which let them move fast and follow whatever trope sounded fun that week, from mechanics and thieves to princesses, shifters, and bodyguards.
In interviews, they have kept their process pretty straightforward. They write during the week, trust a longtime editor, and have said that working together keeps both of them accountable. That tag-team style shows up on the page. The books usually open with a sharp hook, lock onto the couple quickly, and waste very little time getting where they are going.
Books like Mechanic, Thief, Kingpin, and The Virgin Duet are a good snapshot of the early Alexa Riley style. A rough garage owner falls for an innocent rich girl. A thief on one last job loses control the second he meets the heroine. A mafia boss decides protection and possession are basically the same thing. Two virgins make an arrangement and immediately complicate it. The setup is often bold, a little ridiculous, and very much on purpose.
A lot of readers start with Everything for Her, and it makes sense. It is one of their best-known longer books, and it stretches the duo's usual possessive hero energy into a fuller story with Mallory and Oz. His Alone and Claimed stay in that connected corporate world, while Riding Red, Beauty Sleeps, and The Lost Slipper show how easily Lea and Mel can slide the same emotional intensity into fairy-tale shifter romance.
That consistency is part of the fun.
They have also branched out beyond ebooks. Alexa Riley launched the Read Me Romance podcast, which gave listeners serialized romance audio and another doorway into their work. Along the way, the duo reached major bestseller lists, including the New York Times, but the voice of the books stayed much the same: direct, playful, shameless, and very aware of what readers came for.
Publicly, they share only a few small personal details. Their official bio says they are both married moms of two, and that they love football, donuts, and obsessed book heroes. Beyond that, they mostly keep the spotlight on the stories, which feels fitting. Alexa Riley has always been less about author mystique and more about reliability: short books, big feelings, lots of heat, and a guaranteed happy ending.
