Author bio

A.E. Wasp was born on Long Island, New York, and has since lived in Los Angeles, London, Bangkok, and Fort Collins, Colorado. Before publishing novels, she spent years raising children, earning several college degrees, and traveling the world with the U.S. State Department. That long, winding route shows up in her books, which often feel grounded in work, place, and the complicated lives people build for themselves.

Writing was the thing she kept circling back to.

She has said that romance came to her through fan fiction, and that self-publishing finally gave her a practical way to put stories in front of readers. A year in Kabul, Afghanistan, also shaped her work. Hearing stories from soldiers and former service members helped form the emotional core of the Veterans Affairs books, where the real question is not war itself, but what comes after, when people try to come home and live in their own skin again.

A lot of readers first meet her through the Hot Off the Ice books, starting with City Boy and moving through Country Boy and Skater Boy. Those stories revolve around the Seattle Thunder and the men around them. They are hockey romances, but they are also books about coming out, family pressure, friendship, and the very real cost of being honest in a world that does not always make honesty easy.

She likes people with messy lives and good hearts.

That shows up just as clearly in Incoming, Paper Hearts, and Bronze Star. In those books, veterans, lovers, friends, and chosen family members in Red Deer, Colorado work through PTSD, sobriety, grief, trust, and the slow business of starting over. The romance is central, but Wasp usually keeps one eye on the wider circle too, siblings, teammates, parents, friends, exes, and the communities people lean on when life gets rough.

She does not stay in one lane. The Pros & Cons books turn toward romantic suspense, with hackers, thieves, grifters, and a federal agent pulled into dangerous vigilante jobs that somehow lead to love. Buried Desire and Shattered Destiny move into paranormal fantasy, mixing ghosts, old magic, and fairy lore in a more rural setting than a lot of urban fantasy uses. Spirit of the Rodeo brings together an ex-cop, a ghost-talker, and a haunted case at a gay rodeo school. Across all of it, the through line is connection, people finding each other when life is already complicated.

She has talked openly about loving hockey, ghosts, horror, and long road trips, which explains a lot. Some of her settings come from places close to home, and some from the kinds of stops that stay with you long after the drive is over. That mix of ordinary detail and slightly larger-than-life drama gives her books their particular feel.

These days she lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, at least by her own joking account, for who knows how long. That sounds about right for a writer whose stories are full of movement, reinvention, and people trying to figure out where home really is.
