Author bio

A&E Kirk is the pen name of Alyssa and Eileen Kirk, a mother and daughter writing team known for paranormal fantasy romances that mix demon fights, dangerous secrets, sharp banter, and a lot of chaos. Their books live in that fun space where high stakes and humor keep bumping into each other, so a scary scene can be followed by a joke, a crush, or both.

Before the books, Alyssa Kirk was headed in other directions. She has said that she first wanted to be a veterinarian, then thought about training horses, before discovering that science, blood, and horse allergies were not exactly a perfect plan. What kept sticking was storytelling. She liked to daydream, wrote from a young age, and eventually started turning those imaginary scenes into something bigger.

One of those daydreams became Demons at Deadnight.

Eileen Kirk came to the partnership with her own long interest in writing. She has said she had wanted to be a writer for years and had once edited her college newspaper. When Alyssa showed her a manuscript, Eileen saw something worth building on. The two began working on it together, took classes and conferences seriously, queried agents, and learned the publishing side as a team instead of waiting for everything to feel polished and certain.

That part took patience.

They did land representation, came close with publishers, and then chose to self publish when the traditional route stalled. Demons at Deadnight arrived in 2012 and introduced Aurora Lahey, Gossamer Falls, and the Hex Boys, the combination that would put A&E Kirk on a lot of paranormal readers' radar. They followed it with Drop Dead Demons and Demons in Disguise, expanding the world while keeping the same mix of romance, demon hunting, mystery, and wisecracks.

They also developed a very family business way of working. By their own account, they split plots, write scenes in turns, and then swap places to edit, fix, and question what the other just did. It does not sound especially glamorous. It does sound effective. Readers who click with their work usually come back for snarky heroines, tightly bonded teams, and supernatural trouble that never stays small for long.

When they branched out with Midnight Poison, they kept the action but pushed into darker territory. That series opener brings in vampires, werewolves, witches, fairies, and a heroine with a damaged memory and a dangerous past. On the other end of the spectrum, Interview With a Hex Boy and Hex Boys in Disguise show how much they enjoy letting favorite side characters take the spotlight, especially when those characters are already fan favorites.

Off the page, the details they share are pretty down to earth. Alyssa has talked about loving TV, anime, board games, music, exercise, and animals. Eileen has talked about being a wife and mother, loving chocolate, and enjoying horseback riding in the mountains near home. They have also shared that home life includes a horse, a cat, and two dogs, and Alyssa has listed California as home. That feels about right for A&E Kirk. Big paranormal trouble on the page, regular family life in the background, and a writing partnership that grew out of one good manuscript passed across the room.
