The Land of Lost Things

by Andy Griffiths

2025

In this interactive adventure, Andy speaks directly to you as his partner in trouble. The two of you tumble into the Land of Lost Things, where missing socks, toys and homework live, and must navigate its strange rules to find a way home.

Series background & context

Adventures Unlimited is Andy Griffiths' newer series of chapter books created with illustrator Bill Hope. Instead of watching Andy from the outside, you join him inside the story, addressed directly as his partner in every madcap mission.

In The Land of Lost Things you and Andy tumble into the place where all missing objects end up, from odd socks and library books to forgotten toys and lost homework. To get home you have to navigate a world built out of other people's junk, face strange creatures and track down the biggest lost thing of all.

The books are written in a chatty second-person voice that treats the reader as a full character. Andy argues with you, dares you to make choices and occasionally blames you when things go wrong, which makes the whole adventure feel like a shared in-joke rather than a lecture.

Bill Hope's detailed, slightly chaotic drawings match that tone, filling the margins with gadgets, creatures and sight gags that reward close looking. There are fewer comic panels than in the Treehouse books but just as much visual humour.

Adventures Unlimited is a good fit for kids who have grown up on the Treehouse series and want something a little longer, or for families who enjoy reading aloud with plenty of chances to stop and imagine what they would do next. It keeps Andy's trademark silliness but hands more agency to the reader.
