Series background & context

Adam Novus Chronicles is a contemporary urban fantasy series about a soldier who comes back from the dead, at least in practical terms, and discovers that ordinary life is no longer available to him. Adam Novus was a black-ops operator betrayed and abandoned in the Amazon. He eventually returns to civilization, but ten years have vanished from his memory.

The missing decade is only the start of the problem. Adam has been changed into something not fully human, although he does not know who did it or why. He needs to kill once a month to survive, which turns every attempt at a normal routine into a moral and practical crisis. Finding the truth becomes a matter of survival.

His new world has more monsters than he expected.

Set in the present day, the series brings the supernatural into the spaces around a regular city life: workplaces, apartments, streets, private clubs, and the quiet networks that keep strange communities hidden. Adam's closest connections include a centuries-old vampire, a werecat secretary, and an elf doctor trying to understand his condition. Werewolves and other supernatural factions have their own reasons to watch him carefully.

Adam is not a wide-eyed newcomer, even when the rules keep changing. His military background makes him observant, stubborn, and very difficult to intimidate. That creates much of the series' tension. He wants answers about the mission that altered him, but he also has to decide how far he is willing to go when enemies threaten the few people he trusts.

The series is built around unresolved identity as much as action. Adam has to navigate old loyalties, supernatural politics, and a body that may be both weapon and prison. The mystery of what happened in the Amazon links the personal story to a larger hidden world, where ancient beings and modern problems collide.

The Death Curse sets the foundation with a mystery, a dangerous hunger, and a growing cast of allies whose loyalties cannot be taken for granted. The tone is dark but not humorless. Adam's blunt internal commentary and his tendency to question everybody keep the supernatural material grounded, even when the story involves old secrets, magical rules, and creatures out of folklore.

Expect action, conspiracies, and a protagonist who would rather build a quiet life than become anyone's weapon. Start with The Death Curse. It introduces Adam, the hidden world, and the questions that drive the series forward.
