Erin is again helped by Farnsworth, her cat-loving friend, while her own romantic life becomes one more thing competing for her attention.

The mysteries are cozy in structure but not weightless. The crimes affect a close-knit community, and the clues often turn on manners, memory, and who said what to whom. Austen quotations and references are part of the fun, but readers do not need expert knowledge of the novels to follow the cases.
