The Witch Mountain books center on Tony and Tia, two young people who know they are different but cannot fully remember why. Their journey moves through a rough, everyday world of city streets, lonely roads, and suspicious strangers before leading toward the mystery of Witch Mountain.

The pressure comes from pursuit and uncertainty. Tony and Tia do not know whom they can trust, their memories are incomplete, and the people chasing them want access to abilities they do not understand. Key keeps the story focused on the siblings' need for safety, belonging, and a future where they can be themselves.

Return from Witch Mountain brings Tony and Tia back to Earth for a visit, only for Tony to be taken by a scientist determined to control his powers. Tia has to find allies and fight for her brother while he is turned against her. This second book is a novelization of the 1978 film, so it has a faster, more direct action-adventure shape than the original novel.

These are science fiction adventures with a strong emotional center. The special powers are fun, but the series is really about young people being underestimated, adults making dangerous choices, and a few decent people stepping in to help. The tone can be tense, especially when Tony and Tia are cornered, yet Key leaves room for loyalty, humor, and hope.
