Witch and Hunter is a dark historical fantasy duology with a very direct engine: vengeance. The first book pairs a witch and a witch hunter who should be enemies, then forces them into the same fight against people who have already taken too much from both of them.

Fritzi is the lone survivor of a brutal attack on her coven and wants justice for her family. Otto moves among the hexenjägers, or witch hunters, but only as cover for his own revenge. Years earlier, they killed his innocent mother. When the two are thrown together, survival requires cooperation before trust is remotely possible.

The setting gives the series its weight. These books draw on the atmosphere of the German witch trials and the Black Forest, so fear, faith, and authority are not background noise. They shape the whole world. Cities feel dangerous, the forest feels alive, and every use of magic carries risk.

In Night of the Witch, the main drive is escape, pursuit, and uncovering what sits behind the witch hunter attacks. In The Fate of Magic, the scope opens wider. Fritzi steps into a larger role among the witches, Otto binds himself to her as protector, and the threat shifts from one ruthless leader to the future of magic itself.

Even with all that darkness, the series is not grim for the sake of it. It is full of momentum, longing, sharp turns, and characters trying to choose something better than the violence that made them.
