William McGonagall Books in Order

Milligan and Jack Hobbs revisit Scottish poet William McGonagall through a comic scrapbook linked to their film. Press cuttings and the poet’s public persona supply material for a humorous treatment of his life and literary ambitions.

Milligan and Jack Hobbs turn the life of Scottish poet William McGonagall into a fictional comic biography. Their treatment of the famously awkward versifier replaces straightforward historical narration with pastiche, absurd invention, and a deliberately wandering narrative.

Poet William McGonagall encounters composer George Gershwin in an absurd fantasy that ignores ordinary historical boundaries. Their unlikely adventures include a journey through the Arizona desert, where fractured language and impossible encounters replace the logic of a conventional biography.

Milligan and Jack Hobbs send their fictional William McGonagall through a succession of improbable travels, from Balmoral and El Alamein to Istanbul and Lewisham. The notorious poet becomes the center of another comic fantasy built around his extravagant literary self-image.
