Series background & context

Wicked Wallflowers is where Christi Caldwell lets Regency London get rougher, stranger, and much more fun. The series follows the Killorans and the world around them, people with roots in the underclass and ties to gaming hells, crime, and found family, rather than the easy security of the aristocracy.

That outsider energy is the point.

The books center on siblings and allies who have spent their lives fighting to survive. They are smart, protective, suspicious, and often dismissed by polite society. Caldwell places them against noblemen, rivals, reformers, and damaged gentlemen who are forced to question everything they think they know. The Hellion, The Vixen, The Governess, The Bluestocking, and The Spitfire each take a different corner of that struggle.

The setting matters a lot. East London, gaming halls, political maneuvering, and half-legal schemes give the series texture. But underneath the grit is a very tender family story. The Killorans are bound by fierce loyalty, and the romances work best when that loyalty is tested, stretched, and finally widened to let someone new in.

This is one of Caldwell's most readable found-family series. It has more sharp edges than her ballroom books, but it also has a lot of humor, banter, and genuine warmth.

If you like historical romance with class tension, protective siblings, and heroines who absolutely refuse to stay in the neat role assigned to them, Wicked Wallflowers is a standout.
