Series background & context

James Swallow's Blood Angels novels follow one of Warhammer 40,000's most famous Space Marine Chapters. They are noble, artistic, and terrifying in battle, but they also carry two dark flaws: the Red Thirst and the Black Rage.

The central thread follows Brother Rafen through Deus Encarmine, Deus Sanguinius, Red Fury, and Black Tide. These stories mix battlefield action with internal danger, because the Blood Angels' greatest enemy is not always outside the fortress monastery.

Start with Deus Encarmine if you want the full Rafen arc. Expect gothic Space Marine drama, daemons, traitors, Chapter politics, and a lot of fear about what blood loyalty can cost.
