Series background & context
War of the Gods is an epic fantasy romance series that mixes academy training with a larger war against the Olympian gods. It’s built around a heroine with lethal power and a group of immortals who think they can use her, until she starts making it clear she has her own plans.
Cassandra Saélihn has spent most of her life locked away, hidden by her mother and treated like a secret that can’t be allowed to exist. When she’s finally found, it’s not by rescuers looking for justice, it’s by warriors looking for a weapon.
They came for her death magic.
The men who pull her out of the cage aren’t ordinary allies. Her circle includes dangerous, powerful figures, including a vampire lord, twin fae princes, and a demigod, and their attention comes with expectations. At first, Cass is meant to be protected, controlled, and pointed at the enemy.
That doesn’t work for her. Cass wants to fight, not be carried, and the series spends a lot of time on her learning how to own her power without letting anyone else define it. The romance grows out of that friction, trust built in the middle of training sessions, battles, and arguments about what she’s allowed to risk.
A glamoured academy for earthlings becomes the series’ training ground. Cass learns to control her abilities, fight like someone who plans to win, and survive the constant threat of being discovered by enemies who would rather kill her than let her choose a side.
Outside the academy, the conflict widens into court politics, betrayals, and all-out battles with gods who don’t like being challenged. The books balance the slow build of intimacy with the reality that the stakes are world-level, and love doesn’t make anyone invincible.
For the full arc, read the series in order: A Court of Blood and Void → A Court of Fire and Metal → A Court of Ice and Wind → A Court of Earth and Aether. Each book pushes Cass closer to becoming the leader, and the danger, everyone was afraid she’d be.
