Series background & context
Void Rivals begins with two enemies in a situation neither can solve alone. Darak and Solila are pilots from opposing sides of a long war, and both crash on a desolate planet. Getting home requires cooperation with someone each has been taught to distrust. Written by Robert Kirkman and drawn by Lorenzo De Felici, the series builds a science fiction adventure around that uncomfortable dependence before opening into a wider conflict.
Their home is the Sacred Ring, where the remnants of two worlds exist around a black hole. The Agorrians and Zertonians remain divided by war, so the pilots bring more than personal dislike to their encounter. They carry the assumptions and loyalties of their societies. The distant setting makes survival urgent, but it also removes them from the people who normally reinforce those divisions. Repairing a way off the planet forces them to judge one another through actions rather than the stories their own side tells.
Survival gives them a reason to cooperate before it gives them a reason to trust.
The alliance becomes the thread connecting the larger story. Darak and Solila must decide how much to reveal, what help to accept and whether working together makes them disloyal to their own people. As they learn more, the conflict extends beyond a stranded pair trying to escape. Questions about the Sacred Ring and the forces shaping its war become harder to ignore. Their discoveries put pressure on inherited beliefs without turning the series into a simple account of two strangers becoming immediate friends.
The wider universe matters too. Void Rivals belongs to the Energon Universe, which also includes new Transformers and G.I. Joe comics. Familiar figures from that setting can enter the story, but Darak and Solila provide its central viewpoint and personal stakes. Their need to survive gives the expanding mythology something concrete to attach to. Strange technology and larger powers are not only background decoration; they may change what the pilots understand about the place they come from and the conflict they have inherited.
Start with Void Rivals, Vol. 1, which establishes the crash, the uneasy partnership and the first steps into the larger mystery. The later volumes continue the consequences of that opening rather than resetting the characters for separate adventures. The tone mixes space adventure, danger and moments of friction between people obliged to rely on each other. Readers have battles and unfamiliar worlds to explore, but the central tension remains easy to follow: two people need help from the side they were raised to oppose, and that need may unsettle much more than their personal rivalry.
