Fear & Fidelity / Craving Control
by Kylie Hillman
2023
Told from the villain’s side, this dark prequel follows Alex Kingsley’s obsessive fixation on Lily Mayberry. It is a brutal story of control, power, and survival, not a neat or comforting romance.

Series background & context
Villain’s View does exactly what the name promises. Instead of asking you to stand safely beside the heroine, it turns the camera toward the man causing the damage and makes you sit with the logic of obsession.
The key book here is Craving Control, also known in an earlier form as Fear & Fidelity. It follows Alex Kingsley and his fixation on Lily, and it is built as a one-sided, deeply unsettling love story. That is important to know going in. This is not a redemption arc dressed up as a romance. The point is to understand how entitlement, desire, power, and obsession can twist into something predatory.
Because the series sits alongside the wider Black Shamrocks and Duplicity material, it adds weight to the larger saga. You get a clearer sense of why certain threats feel so personal and why some characters carry fear long after the immediate danger passes. It is less about cheering for the relationship and more about understanding the pressure being applied to it from the outside.
The tone is psychological, dark, and intentionally harsh. Power dynamics matter. So do the criminal and family structures around the characters. Hillman uses Alex’s viewpoint to show how a controlling mind can justify almost anything if it decides desire is the same thing as destiny.
If you like companion novels that sharpen the main series rather than soften it, Villain’s View has a lot to offer. Just do not expect comfort from it. The whole point is to get uncomfortably close to the threat.
