Vernon Subutex Books in Order

Former Paris record-shop owner Vernon loses his business, savings, and the musician friend who paid his rent. As homelessness overtakes him, recordings left by that friend make him the unwitting target of people determined to obtain the dead star's secrets.

Vernon's possession of a dead rock star's recordings draws competing pursuers into his increasingly unusual circle. A daughter investigating her mother's death and a producer desperate to suppress the tapes intensify a struggle over secrets, loyalty, and revenge.

An unexpected inheritance disrupts the principles of Vernon's makeshift commune and divides his followers. As old enemies seek retaliation and Paris faces terrorist violence, the relationships gathered around him must confront pressures that threaten their fragile shared world.
