Valley of Choice is Olivia Newport's three-book Amish series about Annalise, known as Annie, a modern woman who leaves behind a successful but unsatisfying high-tech life to explore an Amish way of living. It is also a historical series, because Annie's present-day choices are woven together with the experiences of earlier generations.

In Accidentally Amish, Annie arrives in Colorado looking for something simpler and more meaningful than the fast pace she has known. What begins as an experiment becomes a serious spiritual and personal question. She is drawn to the people around her, including Amish carpenter Rufus Beiler, but she has to decide whether she wants the life itself or only the comfort she has found in it.

The title matters. Annie does not join the Amish community because she is chasing a romance.

In Plain View finds her more deeply involved in the community, but far from settled. A job offer from her former world, family pressure, a red dress, and uncertainty about Rufus all make her question whether she can truly commit to the path she has chosen. When an explosion puts her under suspicion, Annie has more than her future to worry about.

In Taken for English, Annie has formally joined the Amish church. That does not make every question disappear. She wants a future with Rufus, yet he seems in no rush to offer one. At the same time, the series continues to show how the community's past affects the present and why living plainly has never been a simple matter.

Newport alternates Annie's contemporary story with historical threads about Amish settlers and their descendants in Colorado. Those earlier chapters are not side notes. They show the older struggles that shaped the community Annie is entering, including conflict, sacrifice, and the tension of being Amish in an English world.

The tone is thoughtful and relationship-driven, with romance, faith, family friction, and a little suspense. Annie is not presented as someone who instantly understands a new culture. Her mistakes, doubts, and persistence are the point. She has to decide what belief looks like when it requires a real change in the way she lives.

Start with Accidentally Amish and continue in order. The three books form one continuing journey, and Annie's relationship with Rufus, her family, and the Amish community develops gradually across all three.
