Us Books in Order

The Us books feel like a next step inside Micalea Smeltzer's connected world. These stories follow characters who come out of earlier series, especially Willow Creek and Trace + Olivia, so there is a sense of legacy built into them from the start. Parents are famous. Family names mean something. Old friendships and old money hang in the background. But the point of the series is not nostalgia. It is watching a younger set of characters try to build lives that feel like their own.

The first book centers on Willow Wade and Dean Wentworth, two people who have known each other long enough for comfort to turn into something riskier. From there the series opens out to Ariella Geller and Liam Wade, then to Grace Wentworth and Bennett James. Each book has its own romance setup, road trip, danger, hiding out, fake relationship, sports trouble, but they all share that feeling of characters trying to step out from under a family story that already exists.

That inheritance matters.

Liam is dealing with being known for his father more than for himself. Willow is used to the spotlight but not necessarily comfortable in it. Grace is tired of being boxed into the role of the good girl. Even when the external plots differ, the internal tension is often about identity. Who are you when the people around you already think they know the answer. Smeltzer uses romance as the thing that pressures those questions until the characters finally have to answer them honestly.

The tone is new adult contemporary with crossover appeal for readers who like band worlds, sports romance, and family networks that stretch across multiple books. Surfing, hockey, reputation, media attention, and dangerous pasts all come into play, but the books still read primarily as emotionally driven romance. These are not background-free love stories. The characters carry history into every room.

You can start here, but this series gets richer if you already know some of the earlier families and friendships. If you do not, the books still work as stories about young adults trying to define themselves outside inherited expectations. That is really the spine of Us, people learning that love can be part of growing up, but it cannot do the growing up for you.
