Underdog Books in Order

Born without the abilities his world's System grants others, Eric survives through artifacts his parents bought at great cost. Their deaths leave him orphaned and indebted, forcing the vulnerable boy into dangerous dungeon work to repay the bank.

Having escaped the dungeons with new magic and companions, Eric returns toward his hometown to end his debt obligation. Armed raiders have overrun the surrounding estates, turning the journey into another struggle to avoid capture and survive.

Eric's travels reveal that his family was deceived about his missing brother's fate. Pursuing the truth while an orcish army advances, he also begins to understand the dangerous legacy of the monster hunters he has become involved with.

Stranded in an unfamiliar world, Eric finds a possible route home but lacks the mana needed to use it. Without his usual companion or functioning magic, he must rely on a local boy to understand the world's strange rules.

Refugees flee monstrous attacks as a dark gateway releases creatures into the world of the Great System. With old enemies forming alliances and armies gathering, the growing catastrophe threatens to turn scattered disasters into a new war.

A desperate escape carries Eric to the Citadel of Chaos, where leaving requires surviving a dangerous magical trial. Its potential rewards could give him the strength to confront the ruler holding his friends captive, if he lives through it.

Newly leading the weakened Order of Monster Hunters, Eric must rebuild its strength before an ancient enemy retaliates. His search for powerful allies takes him into the gnomes' kingdom, where a legendary blacksmith may hold the help he needs.

After a devastating defeat, Eric uses forbidden magic to protect his friends' retreat and is condemned by the System. Wounded and stripped of his standing, he continues resisting the darkness even as former allies regard him as an outcast.
