In Shadow Bound, the focus shifts to Kori Daniels, a shadow-walker who can move through darkness itself but cannot easily move outside the reach of the Tower Syndicate. Then Oath Bound turns to Sera Brandt, a woman with hidden heritage and hidden power who can no longer stay hidden once the fight turns personal.

So while the books are linked by one setting and one criminal underworld, they do not simply repeat the same arc with the same lead. Vincent uses each heroine to show a different part of the world. Liv brings the investigative angle. Kori brings the trapped-inside-the-system angle. Sera brings inheritance, power, and the question of who takes over when the old order rots from the inside.

The setting feels contemporary on the surface, but there is always a shadow version of society running right beside it. Skilled people are bought, controlled, threatened, and used. The Tower Syndicate looms over much of the series as both a criminal organization and a symbol of the larger system, a place where loyalty can be coerced, where family can be weaponized, and where keeping your word may literally bind you.

Romance matters in these books, but it never wipes away the danger. That is important. Vincent lets attraction coexist with mistrust, trauma, and opposing agendas. The relationships are part of the tension, not a break from it. These are stories about people who need help but have very good reasons not to trust the person offering it.

If you are coming from Shifters or Soul Screamers, Unbound will probably feel older and sharper. The stakes are intimate and political at the same time, and the magic system has a nice mean streak to it. Readers who like urban fantasy with criminal networks, morally complicated loyalties, and heroines carrying more than one kind of burden should find a lot to like here.
