Series background & context

Twisted Love sits on the darker end of Eaton's catalog. It is a police procedural romance series, co-written with Amy Manemann, and it leans hard into homicide work, damaged detectives, and cases that keep colliding with personal desire.

The structure is a little unusual at first. Love Lorn and Love Torn introduce two different female detectives, Evie Harper and Kali Mann, in parallel-style openings. Each is dealing with a brutal case and a partner who is starting to matter more than professional distance should allow. That setup gives the series two strong entry points before the books begin pulling the cast closer together in later installments.

The tone is intense. Serial killers, hostage situations, threats from the past, betrayal, and the ugly side of police work all shape these stories. The romances are not soft landings from the plot. They are part of the problem, because trust is hard to come by when everyone is overworked, wounded, or hiding something.

What makes the series different from a standard detective romance is the way it keeps personal damage in the foreground. These are not polished investigators who solve a case and go home. They carry baggage, make bad calls, get emotionally entangled, and pay for it. That keeps the books feeling more volatile than cozy.

Because the early entries build the core detectives separately and later books deepen the shared world, reading in order is the best move here. You get the full benefit of the character history and the slow build of tension between partners.

If you like romantic suspense that stays close to homicide work and does not mind a darker emotional atmosphere, Twisted Love is the series to pick.
