Series background & context

Dakota Willink’s Trustfall trilogy follows Serena Martinelli and Anton Romano through a relationship that begins with an unequal bargain and grows increasingly dangerous. Serena comes from Italy’s elite, while Anton has built a fortune after rising from New York’s criminal underworld. Her need for financial help brings her close to a man whose resources come with secrets and expectations of his own. The series combines dark billionaire romance with suspense, keeping the same couple at the centre as desire, protection and control become harder to separate.

Take Me Under introduces Serena at a vulnerable point in her life. Anton offers something she badly needs, making it difficult to refuse an arrangement she knows may have costs beyond money. He is attracted to her, but his interest is also connected to plans he has not fully disclosed. Their differing positions give the romance an immediate imbalance. Serena has reasons to accept his help, while Anton is accustomed to pursuing what he wants with determination. The attraction develops within a bargain neither can regard as entirely uncomplicated.

Getting closer does not mean all the terms have been revealed.

Take Me Darkly takes Serena into Anton’s New York world, where his private club is intended to keep her safe. The setting also makes her feel confined, raising questions about how much freedom protection leaves her. Attention from the press, pressure on Anton’s business and enemies still searching for Serena prevent the couple from simply withdrawing into their relationship. The club is important because it places her inside a space he controls. Trust becomes both the reason she stays close and the thing most affected by what she cannot choose for herself.

The third book, Take Me Forever, carries the threat beyond New York when Serena is held overseas and Anton turns toward his former underworld connections to find her. The larger suspense arc remains tied to the couple’s attachment, with separation making their dependence on one another more urgent. Across the trilogy, wealth supplies access and influence without guaranteeing safety. Anton’s past can offer means of resistance while also pulling him closer to the ruthlessness he has tried to leave behind. Serena’s survival requires her to act within circumstances shaped by people who underestimate or seek to control her.

Read Take Me Under, Take Me Darkly and Take Me Forever in that order. These are parts of one continuing romance and suspense story, so the later books build on the earlier relationship and its unanswered questions. Readers can expect explicit adult romance, powerful attraction and a dark tone. The appeal lies in watching a bond develop under pressure while asking what trust means when one partner controls much of the available safety. The series keeps its emotional and external dangers connected, making the next choice matter to both the relationship and the struggle to survive.
