Series background & context

Treasures of the Nile drops readers into ancient Egypt during the generation surrounding Moses' birth and the Exodus. Instead of viewing plagues and miracles from a distance, the novels follow women who must choose between the gods they were raised with and a Hebrew God who upends their world.

In The Pharaoh's Daughter, Egyptian princess Anippe grows up in the dangerous shadow of Pharaoh's court, haunted by the death of her mother in childbirth and terrified of bearing a child herself. When she marries a military captain and conspires with Hebrew midwives to disguise the source of a baby she claims as her own, a Hebrew child drawn from the Nile changes the course of her life. The story imagines Moses' earliest years through Anippe's fears, lies, and gradual awakening to a different kind of God.

Miriam shifts the focus to Moses' older sister decades later. At eighty six, Miriam has spent a lifetime serving as a midwife and messenger of El Shaddai, content in familiar routines even under slavery. Her faith is shaken when Moses returns from exile announcing a new name for God and a radical plan to free Israel. As plagues strike Egypt and the Hebrews prepare to leave, Miriam and her family must decide whether they truly trust the God they have served in name for so long.

Taken together, the Treasures of the Nile books offer an inside look at the Exodus story, from the palace nursery to the cramped homes of Hebrew slaves. Expect palace politics, everyday domestic detail, and the constant tension of imperial power confronting a God who refuses to be controlled. Readers who enjoy character driven biblical fiction will find strong women, complicated families, and a God who stays present in fear filled places.
