Tranquility Books in Order

Tranquility is a colony-world military sci-fi series co-written by Devon C. Ford and Josh Hayes. It starts with a promise people have heard before, leave old wars behind, travel to a distant world, and begin again. Joel Lander and his family sign up for exactly that. They are not heading out as conquerors or explorers. They are settlers hoping the frontier will be kinder than Earth.

Of course it is not. When they reach Tranquility, the colony they expected to join is already in deep trouble. Communications are broken, danger is close, and Lander is forced back toward the kind of violence he wanted to leave behind. That gives the first book a strong mix of colony survival and military response, with the added pressure of family being right there in the blast radius.

New worlds do not erase old habits.

That becomes even clearer in Battle Lines. The immediate alien threat may shift, but the world stays unstable. The Hive leaves damage behind, and the human side of the conflict hardens rather than softens. The Asiatic Chinese Alliance remains a serious problem, local survivors are carrying trauma, and the colony has very little room for error. Tranquility is the sort of place where personal history, military necessity, and sheer bad timing keep colliding.

The series works because it keeps both the large and small stakes in view. There are battles, shifting fronts, and big genre hooks, but there is also a home-front feeling to parts of the story. Families, settlers, and damaged survivors have to live with the consequences of every fight. That stops the books from drifting too far into abstract warfare.

If you like colony science fiction with military pressure, alien danger, and the constant sense that the place meant to save everyone might instead trap them, Tranquility is a solid fit. It is frontier optimism meeting frontier reality, with a rifle never too far out of reach.
