Series background & context
Trackers is Nicholas Sansbury Smith's grounded end-of-America series, the one that strips away monsters and space hardware and asks what a real collapse might look like if the power simply went out. The trigger is an electromagnetic pulse attack that cripples the United States, followed by a strike on Washington. From there the books stay close to the practical fallout, broken communication, empty roads, frightened towns, missing children, armed opportunists, and leaders trying to hold together communities with almost nothing left.
The story has several anchors, and that helps.
In Colorado, Police Chief Marcus Colton and tracker Sam Raven Spears are forced into an uneasy partnership while trying to protect Estes Park and hunt dangerous people in the chaos. Elsewhere, Charlize Montgomery moves through the political and military side of the disaster, showing how national collapse looks from the top even when there is barely a top left. That split between local survival and national response gives the series a wider view than a lot of EMP fiction.
This is a series about people, not gimmicks.
The books work because the problems feel concrete. Food, fuel, borders, panic, policing, loyalty, and retaliation all matter. Even when the scale grows, the emotional center stays with families and towns trying to make it through another week. If you want post-apocalyptic fiction that feels close to home and mostly possible, Trackers is the Nicholas Sansbury Smith series to try.
