Author bio
Toni Aleo was born in Germany, but her heart belongs to Nashville, Tennessee, where hockey rinks and love stories have shaped both her life and her books. Long before she became a bestselling author, she was the fan with her face to the glass, cheering on the Nashville Predators and memorising every shift.
Off the ice, she calls herself a total dork. She is a wife, a mom to two kids, and a devoted dog owner, juggling school runs, practices, and late-night writing sessions. When she is not at her husband’s and son’s hockey games or her daughter’s gymnastics and dance events, she is usually in the gym, in a book, or deep in a new story. Her obsessions run from Harry Potter and Supernatural to Disney movies and anything that sparkles, and that playful energy sneaks into her work.
Her writing career started, fittingly, with hockey. Wanting a romance that felt as gritty and emotional as the game she loved, she sat down and wrote Taking Shots. The story of insecure photographer Elli Fisher and team captain Shea Adler became the foundation for the Assassins universe, blending locker-room banter, on-ice action, and a heroine learning to believe she deserves love. Readers connected hard, and the book opened the door to a full-time life as an author.
From there, the Assassins series grew into a whole world. Books like Trying to Score, Empty Net, and Blue Lines follow different players on the fictional Nashville Assassins hockey team as they fight through addiction, grief, family drama, and second chances. The stories are steamy and emotional, but grounded in everyday struggles: co‑parenting, rebuilding after bad relationships, and learning how to communicate when it would be easier to shut down.
Aleo did not stop at one team. With the Bellevue Bullies books, she shifted the focus to college athletes and campus life, starting with Boarded by Love, where a hotshot hockey star falls for a dancer hiding a bruised past. The Nashville Assassins: Next Generation series lets readers watch the children of earlier couples grow up, chase their own hockey dreams, and figure out love in the age of social media. The IceCats books move the action to a Carolina franchise while keeping the same mix of found family, locker-room humour, and big feelings.
She also writes beyond the rink. Her small‑town Spring Grove novels follow characters coming home to Kentucky and facing old heartbreaks in places where everyone knows their history. The Taking Risks stories lean into Irish whiskey, tight-knit families, and the pressure of legacy. With the Patchwork series, written as T. Aleo, she steps into paranormal romance, building an underground New York ruled by vampires, wolves, witches, and a clan descended from Dr. Frankenstein.
Across all of these books, some themes keep coming back. Her characters are often survivors of something—abuse, neglect, loss, public failure—who still manage to be funny, stubborn, and hopeful. Many of her heroines struggle with body image or self-worth, and the men who love them have to grow up fast, facing therapy, sobriety, or hard conversations instead of relying only on charm. Family, whether it is the one you are born into or the one you build in a locker room or small town, matters a lot.
These days, Aleo still lives in the Nashville area, still screams for the Predators, and still talks to readers online like they are part of the team. Her schedule is full—gym sessions, kids’ events, deadlines—but that chaos is also what keeps her stories feeling lived‑in and real. She writes the kind of romances she once went looking for: big on chemistry, honest about pain, and always, always skating toward a happy ending.
