Tina Seskis grew up in Hampshire, in the south of England, and later studied at the University of Bath. Before fiction took over, she spent more than 20 years working in marketing and advertising. She now lives in North London with her husband, son, and dog.

Writing was not a random swerve.

She has said that she wanted to write when she was young, but for a long time that wish got buried under the pull of a sensible career. There was even an early attempt on a beach in Goa that lasted about 45 minutes before she gave up and got on with the holiday. Later, while sorting through old belongings, she found stories she had written in primary school, plus notes that showed she had once imagined a more obviously creative path.

The real turning point came when her mother became ill. Seskis began writing a story for her mother to read, and that story grew into One Step Too Far. When she could not find an agent, she set up her own publishing company and published the book herself, which gives her writing career a grounded, practical beginning that fits the determined streak behind it.

It worked.

One Step Too Far became the novel many readers found first. It follows Emily Coleman, who seems to have a settled family life and then suddenly walks away from it. The book mixes mystery with grief, family strain, and reinvention, and it showed early on what Seskis does well: she takes an ordinary-looking life and starts tugging at the parts that do not quite hold.

She kept exploring that territory in A Serpentine Affair, later republished as When We Were Friends, which turns a long friendship between university friends into a dark reunion story. In The Honeymoon, a luxury trip to the Maldives becomes a disappearance thriller. Then Home Truths and Hope Close bring the tension back to everyday domestic spaces, looking at marriages, neighbors, private fears, and the secrets people work hard to keep out of sight.

That pressure between public calm and private mess runs through much of her work. Seskis writes about couples, families, old friends, and people living close to each other, with hidden histories always pressing at the surface. She often uses multiple points of view, which lets readers see how differently people remember the same events, and how easy it is to miss what is happening inside someone else's life.

She also has a feel for settings that quietly tighten the screws. London appears often, but so do enclosed worlds like a shared house, a reunion, a luxury island resort, or a tidy residential close. Even when the plots get twisty, the emotional engines are familiar ones: guilt, jealousy, loyalty, shame, and the hope that starting again might still be possible.

Seskis did not arrive through the neat, traditional route, and that is part of what makes her story interesting. She built early momentum herself, and her novels have since reached readers in 20 languages and more than 60 countries.
