Series background & context

The Three Sisters Trilogy folds classic fairy tale ideas into a modern fantasy about curses, reincarnation and the dangerous bargains made with the fey. Each book follows a different young woman whose life has been shaped, and often ruined, by an ancient spell. Together, their stories build a picture of two magical courts locked in rivalry and the human girls caught between them.

Deadly Nightshade begins with Linny, a girl stuck at a boarding school in Maine who knows she will die before her sixteenth birthday. She has done it before, over many lifetimes, thanks to a curse laid on her family by a powerful Sidhe king. This time, though, something shifts when Quinn Ramsay arrives at the school. He is a descendant of the very ruler who doomed her line, and he has his own mission in the war between light and dark magic. The book spins out the uneasy alliance between cursed girl and enemy heir, mixing school corridors and New England woods with flashes of older, stranger worlds.

In Stinging Nettle, the focus moves to Wren, a thief whose botched attempt to steal a fey amulet has catastrophic results. Her seven brothers are transformed into wild swans and scattered, leaving her to carry the guilt and the task of breaking the spell. Hunted by Devlin Brannan, sworn enemy of her family, she flees through borderlands where human and fey territories blur. The story draws on the wild swans folk tale but gives Wren a sharp, stubborn voice and surrounds her with shapeshifters, enchantments and moral choices that rarely have easy answers.

Although each novel has its own main couple and quest, the trilogy keeps circling the same deep questions: how far would you go to save your family, what debts do you owe to past lives, and can love undo damage that has lasted for centuries. The sisters' paths cross and echo one another, revealing new facets of the curse and of the fey politics that created it. Side characters in one book may step into the spotlight in another, rewarding readers who follow the sequence.

Expect magic that feels rooted in old stories, but treated with a very contemporary eye for consent, anger and agency. The tone is romantic and adventurous rather than grim, with boarding schools, enchanted forests and fey strongholds providing the backdrop. If you enjoy fairy tale retellings that give the heroines more say in how their fate plays out, this trilogy is a good fit.
