Series background & context
Thorne Hill is the series most readers think of first with Emily Goodwin, and it is easy to see why. The books start with Dead of Night, when Callie, a witch, crosses paths with Lucas King, a vampire, and what begins as dangerous attraction turns into a long-running paranormal romance with much bigger consequences.
At first, the hook is simple and strong. Witches are turning up dead, vampires are still trying to live in the open, and Callie has every reason not to trust Lucas. But the series does not stay small for long. Thorne Hill keeps widening until it pulls in covens, vampire councils, demons, angels, family secrets, old bargains, and fights that put whole communities at risk.
It gets bigger fast.
What keeps it working is that the emotional core stays steady. Callie and Lucas are not just thrown together for one book and forgotten. Their relationship is the spine of the series. As the world grows stranger, their bond keeps the story anchored, and the town itself starts to feel like part of the cast.
Thorne Hill also has a strong sense of supernatural community. Friends, allies, enemies, and uneasy truces all matter. One book might center on a murder mystery or a magical threat, while the next pulls harder on bloodlines, destiny, or the balance between heaven and hell. Even so, the tone stays readable and quick, with banter, heat, and enough danger to keep the story moving.
If you like long paranormal series that begin with a forbidden romance and grow into full supernatural chaos, this is the place to start. The books work best in order, because each one builds on the last and the payoffs come from watching Callie and Lucas survive one impossible situation after another.
