Athene creates a city based on Plato's Republic, gathering children and teachers from across history alongside futuristic robots. Apollo joins as a mortal boy, but Socrates' arrival raises questions that challenge the gods' experiment in human excellence.

Twenty years after Athene's experiment began, the Just City has divided into rival communities. Apollo, still living as a mortal, sets sail with his children after a devastating loss, pursuing answers while grief turns his thoughts toward revenge.

Athene's experimental cities now flourish on the distant planet Plato, trading with alien neighbors. When Apollo's mortal life ends and a ship arrives from Earth, the communities face an unexpected encounter with humanity beyond their philosophical society.
