The series begins with We Go On, where Josh and Liz Miller are left reeling after their son Colby's suicide. Their surviving son, Tyler, is grieving too, and the whole family starts pulling in different directions. A hidden horse named Dusty becomes one of the unexpected threads in their healing. That is a very Regina Walker move. She lets grief stay messy, then gives the characters something living and concrete to care for while they are trying to stay afloat.

Still With Us widens the emotional circle. Ella is trapped in addiction and the abusive orbit around it, while her mother Tammy is desperate to reach her before it is too late. The book also keeps some of the earlier characters in view, which helps the series feel connected by community rather than just by subject matter. These families do not heal in isolation.

Then We Grow Together shifts to Riley Hamilton, a teenager facing an unplanned pregnancy after one bad night. That setup could have become preachy or flat in lesser hands. Walker instead keeps the focus on fear, pressure, shame, and the life-changing weight of choice. The series stays consistent by treating every crisis as deeply personal while also showing the family and faith networks around it.

One of the strongest things about Then Comes Hope is that it does not confuse hope with ease. The characters argue. They relapse into anger. They misunderstand each other. Marriages strain. Parents fail. Teenagers make choices that cannot be undone. Yet the books keep returning to the idea that ruin is not the end of the story.

Horses, farms, and rural spaces also matter more than you might expect. They provide room to breathe. They slow the pace just enough for the emotional fallout to land. Walker knows how to use those settings without turning them into sentimental wallpaper.

If you want gentle romance, this is not the first Regina Walker series to try. But if you want Christian fiction that is frank about pain and still committed to redemption, Then Comes Hope is a strong place to start. It is not easy reading. It is hopeful reading.
