The Withering Mysteries takes Grim, the monster hunter from Witch's Block, and gives him a darker, tighter trilogy of his own. The first problem is immediate and ugly, he has been cursed with a sickness that is slowly turning him into one of the creatures he hunts.

Grim works well as the center because he is already emotionally guarded before the curse gets worse. He is not solving cases from a place of comfort.
