Series background & context

The Wallace Brothers series follows a family of brothers whose lives are shaped by duty, danger, and the people who make them question the armor they have built around themselves. The books begin with Hearts in Armor, followed by Hearts on Fire and Hearts Under Cover.

The titles point to the series' central idea. These are men accustomed to being guarded, whether because of work, family history, or hard experience. Romance asks them to become vulnerable without losing the strength that has helped them survive.

Family changes the stakes.

Each book gives a different brother or connected character room to find love, while the family bond links the stories together. The relationships are not separate from the suspense. Outside threats, secrets, and high-pressure circumstances put the couples under strain, forcing them to choose whether to push each other away or work together.

The series has the contemporary-romance energy readers may recognize from Davenport's other work, but its focus on brothers gives it a strong family-series feel. Protective instincts run high, and the heroines have to decide what they need from a partner when danger makes trust difficult.

Start with Hearts in Armor. The books are best read in order because the Wallace family relationships and ongoing context grow from one installment to the next. The later titles gain extra weight when readers already know who stands beside each couple.

Expect romance with suspense, close family ties, guarded heroes, and women who refuse to settle for half-truths or half-hearted commitment.
